Bite alarm guides

Bite Alarm Comparison Table

Sixteen alarms from twelve brands in one table: sensing method, power, receiver and range, with a link to each alarm's full specification page.

In short

  • Every alarm in this table has its own page with the full specification and who it suits.
  • Roller wheel sensing is the most common; Delkim uses vibration; Wolf's Icon Qi combines both; Nash's R4 adds speed and wave sensing.
  • Range figures are maker claims in open ground. Where a maker doesn't publish a figure, we say so.
  • Specifications were checked against maker and UK stockist listings in November 2026.

Which alarms have which features?

A quick check of features anglers often ask about. A tick means the maker or UK stockists list the feature; a dash means it isn't listed, not necessarily that it's missing.

How to use this table

Start with sensing

Decide whether you want a roller wheel, vibration, dual or speed-sensing alarm. If you're not sure, our sensing guide explains the trade-offs. Most anglers are well served by a good roller wheel.

Then decide on a receiver

If you fish overnight or move away from your rods, you need a transmitting alarm and a receiver. The Delkim Ev-D has no transmitter; the Gardner ATTs has no speaker and needs a receiver. Everything else here can work either way.

Check power and running costs

Alarms that share a battery size with your other kit save hassle. Wolf's X1 avoids disposable batteries altogether. See the batteries guide.

Treat range as a guide

A 750 m claim and a 100 m claim are both measured in ideal conditions. Most UK swims need far less, but trees, high banks and bivvy walls eat into range. Our receivers guide explains why.

How we check these specifications

We take every figure from the maker or from established UK stockists' listings, and we note where they disagree. Range figures are always the maker's open-ground claim. Where we couldn't confirm a figure, such as the battery type for a few alarms, the table says "not stated" rather than repeating an unverified number from elsewhere. Specifications were last checked in November 2026; if you spot a change, please tell us.

Budget bands are approximate and based on typical UK set prices; check current prices with retailers through each alarm's page. For help deciding, read how to choose a bite alarm or browse by brand in our brands guide.
