What these specs mean · Compare every alarm

The Siren R4 builds on the speed-responsive indication of Nash's Siren R3. Nash's aim is to screen out "non-events" such as wind, undertow and waves while still registering a genuine take, using what it calls Intelligent Sensing. The R4 is sold as a single head (T2980) and in 2, 3 and 4 rod presentation sets with the R4 receiver.

Who it suits

Anglers who fish big, windswept waters, from boats, or abroad, where waves and undertow cause constant false bleeps on simpler alarms. The receiver's range and buddy channel suit long sessions and group trips.

Worth knowing

  • Some review sites list a CR2 battery for the R4 head; Angling Direct's listing says 2 x AAA. Check the manual that comes with your alarm.
